Airbnb Online Experiences: Take A Next-Level Staycation

COVID-19 has sadly halted travel plans for many, and we’re starting to feel some cabin fever as we continue another month of sheltering in place. But new Airbnb feature Airbnb Online won’t let a pandemic stop them, or you, from exploring.

That’s why they created Airbnb Online Experiences – the digital version of their hosted experiences around the world. 

The company added Airbnb Online Experiences: unique activities we can do together, led by a world of hosts. True to Airbnb Experiences in real life, Online Experiences are hosted by remarkable people and set in small groups. 

Here are a few of the online experiences I can’t wait to try!

Meditation with a Japanese Buddhist Monk

Host Kuniatsu has been a Buddhist monk for nearly 20 years. He worked in Shitennoji Temple for 12 years as a monk, doing zen meditation. Here’s how he sums up what you’ll do:

In this online experience, I start by sharing the story behind how and why I became a Buddhist monk and about my meditation practice. Next, we’ll do two types of meditation together. First is a chanting mantra for 20 minutes. This type of meditation allows you to go deep into your practice. Next we will do a 10-minute breathing-out meditation. Afterwards, you’ll share your questions and reflections on the practice. I am also happy to offer other meditations, such as meditation with a candle or mirror, Qigong, Sutra copying, and counting meditation, one of the basic Zen practices.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Discover mindfulness through this online experience. You’ll notice the benefits immediately, bringing you to a state of calm and breaking the myths around meditation.
Our experience lasts one hour and includes:
Brief introduction to meditation

Brief introduction to the principles of mindfulness
Mindful eating
Mindful walking
Inner peace meditation (guided meditation)
Love and compassion meditation (guided meditation)
During this experience, you’ll feel inner peace, calm, gratitude, love, and less anxiety. These peaceful feelings (and more!) will stay with you long after we finish meditating together.
This experience is great for team-building if you’re looking to reconnect with your colleagues and teammates while you enjoy a moment of peace. It’s available in English or Spanish.

Here’s how Breeja Larson, and I’m an Olympic Gold Medalist for Team USA, sums up what you’ll do:

At the beginning of our online experience, I would love to hear what you expect and would like to get out of our time together. My intention is to help you create strong goals for yourself and help you set yourself up with a solid mental game plan for achieving them. I will teach you techniques on how to train your brain to create an Olympian mindset. I can tell you inspirational stories from my own career and the careers of my teammates, and I would love to hear your own. We will work together so you end feeling inspired to achieve your goals.

We can’t wait to explore and interact with chefs, spiritual and physical wellness gurus, and even Olympic athletes for a much-needed remote escape!
