Is Drug Detecting Nail Polish Really a Thing?

You are at a bar with your friends when a man walks over and strikes up a conversation. He is charming and intelligent, offers to buy you a drink. You accept and he soon returns to continue conversation. As he excuses himself to use the restroom you casually dip your finger into your drink and watch your fingernail polish change color…He has slipped something into your beverage.

Approximately 75% of all rapes are date rapes, or some type of acquaintance. Being able to stop this trend is what is pushing Undercover Colors to continue development of a product that detects popular date rape drugs and warns the wearer of their presence.

Started in 2014, Undercover Colors has not, yet, released a product. Actually, their social media accounts have been inactive for about a year. They did fundraising, and were even featured in an episode of Modern Family, but the product isn’t on the shelves and some argue that it isn’t even feasible to test for date rape drugs.

In the world of start-ups, sometimes an idea is all you got.

We are looking for more up-to-date information on this idea that garnered so much attention in 2014 and 2015. Have you seen an update out there for color-changing finger nail polish that can keep women safe from popular date-rape drugs? We’d love to know. Tweet @StarterNoise using hashtag #StartupUpdate
