Largest free entrepreneurial event in North America continues through Friday

DENVER (Sept. 30, 2015) – Denver Startup Week, the largest free entrepreneurial event of its kind in North America, announced today that 10,000 people have registered to attend more than 230 events, a milestone solidifying its standing as the largest free entrepreneurial event in North America. Denver Startup Week events will continue at locations throughout Downtown Denver through Friday, Oct. 2.

“If there were any doubts that Denver is the best place to start and grow a business, we can now point to more than 10,000 people who are connecting to networking, resources and knowledge at Denver Startup Week,” says Erik Mitisek, CEO of the Colorado Technology Association and co-founder of Denver Startup Week. “The entrepreneurial spirit in Downtown Denver is contagious, as the entire community has come together with the message that if you want to start up, start here.”

“We’re sending a strong message to the country that Downtown Denver is an epicenter of innovation and entrepreneurship,” says Tami Door, president and CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership and co-founder of Denver Startup Week. “National recognition and awareness of what is happening in Denver will serve as a platform to attract the most innovative companies and investors in the world.”

Denver Startup Week has grown from 70 events and 3,500 attendees from its first year in 2012:

2012:

  • 70 Events in 6 Days
  • 3,500 Community Attendees

2013:

  • 150 Events in 5 Days
  • 5,500 Community Attendees

2014:

  • 180 Events in 5 Days
  • 8,500 Community Attendees

2015

  • 230+ Events in 5 Days
  • 10,000+ Community Attendees

In addition, 400 volunteers help ensure the success of events throughout the week.

There are more than 620 startups located in Downtown Denver, employing more than 4,350 people, according to the Downtown Denver Startup Report released this week by the Downtown Denver Partnership. Downtown Denver’s projected growth rate over the next five years is also expected to be four times the national average.

Denver Startup Week is organized by the Denver Startup Week Organizing Committee and co-led by Tami Door, president and CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership, Erik Mitisek, CEO of the Colorado Technology Association, and Ben Deda, executive vice president of marketing and business development at Galvanize.
